Read this 35 years ago and one thing that has always stuck with me is an amazing scene he writes of a murder in a steam room. While reading, it seems the steam obstructs and clears as the writing goes on, leaving one with the odd impression of having read what happened but not truly seeing clearly, as if read through the steam. Had to re-read the portion over and over to figure out what he was doing to my brain!
